When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. The retention phase lasts for a minimum of 12 to 15 months. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far. Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.
Essix Retainer
The Essix retainer is a transparent removable retainer that fits over the entire arch of teeth. Similar to Invisalign trays, Essix retainers have no wires. They are less expensive and easier to wear.
Lingual-Bonded Retainer
Sometimes, we may choose to place a bonded lingual retainer on the back of your lower front teeth. A bonded retainer is a nice alternative to a removable retainer because it is permanently attached to your teeth so you can't lose it! However, home care must be ideal to ensure that the bonded retainer is kept clean.
